Aluminum silicate is a kind of aluminosilicate, commonly known as "kyanite", "red silica" and "sillimanite". The chemical formula is Al2O3·SiO2. The molecular weight is 162.04. White orthorhombic crystals. It has glass luster and transparent body. The melting point is 1545°C (transformed into Al2O3·2SiO2), the boiling point is higher than 1545°C, the relative density is 3.247, and the refractive index is 1.66. It is soluble in molten alkali, but insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. Decomposes in case of hydrogen fluoride. It exists in nature in the form of minerals. Natural minerals are also called "mullite", chemical formula 3Al2O3·2SiO2, colorless orthorhombic crystals, melting point 1920°C, relative density 3.156, refractive index 1.638 (1.642, 1.653), insoluble in acid and water. Uses: Used to make fillers in glass, pottery, refractory materials, gems, technical ceramics, pigments and paints. Its natural minerals are used to make clay bricks, high alumina bricks and porcelain. Aluminum silicate is mainly used to make high-temperature fire-resistant sound insulation cotton, board, pipe, seam felt, fire-resistant insulation cloth, high-temperature paper, fire-resistant insulation rope, belt, fire-resistant insulation needle-punched blanket (with spinning, spraying) ,brick. Aluminum silicate is an amorphous superfine white loose powder. Has excellent suspension and pure white appearance. The water immersion Ph value is 9.70～10.80. The apparent density is 0.22～0.28 kg/L.
